18th Century Georgian Oak Chest of Drawers, Two Over Three
An English Georgian oak chest of drawers dating to the early-to-mid 18th century, circa 1720–1760. Its beautifully aged oak displays rich colour, distinctive grain and the gentle character that develops over generations of use.
Arranged with two short drawers above three graduated full-width drawers, this antique oak chest features a moulded overhanging top, planked sides, pegged carcass joinery and shaped bracket feet.
- Period: Georgian, early-to-mid 18th century (circa 1720–1760)
- Origin: England
- Material: Oak with brass hardware
- Arrangement: Two short drawers over three graduated long drawers
- Width: 90 cm
- Depth: 50 cm
- Height: 86 cm
Good antique condition with an authentic aged patina and wear consistent with its age and use. There is a historic dark liquid mark to the upper right of the top, a faint ring mark and light surface scratches. The right-hand side panel shows an age-related timber shrinkage split, with a further gap at the rear side-panel joint. There is a small historic filled or plugged mark beneath the escutcheon of the upper full-width drawer, along with minor edge chipping to the feet. If you look closely, you can notice the handles have been replaced at some point, but it's very hard to notice.
